Hiking in the Sacred Valley and Train to Machupicchu 4 days

Choquequirao Adventure Hike to Cachiccata and Machu Picchu

Cachiccata is a small community on the outskirts of Ollantaytambo surrounded by old Inca trails. We'll hike through small farms to explore secluded waterfalls, "chullpas", "lintels" and other curious aspects of Peruvian civilization. To get to the trail head, we drive through the Sacred Valley of the Incas to Socma and the start of our adventure.

Day 01 Socma-Perolniyoc.
After a full Peruvian breakfast buffet in your hotel, we will drive you to Socma which takes about two hours. From here we will hike up hill for about two more hours, passing through mountain meadows and by local families. We arrive at a small, secluded waterfall above which are the archaeological ruins of Perolniyoc and our campsite for the night.

Day 02 Perolniyoc-Choqetacapu
An early start takes us up hill and through some small farms. We reach the highest pass from which we savor the view of several snow-capped mountains. After lunch in Mamacocha, we head to Choqetacarpu (a small Inca site) where we will camp.

Day 03 Choquetacarpu-Ollantaytambo
Prepare for a spectacular sunrise. The first sun beams heat the mountain, called Waccay Willca (Veronica). We have time to explore the area, then we head to the Inti Punku (sun gate). This is an Incan structure that frames the Waccay Willca mountain. After our breakfast we hike to the quarry of Ollantaytambo to search for lintels (big pieces of pink granite) that were carved by the Incas. Along the way, we will see Chullpas (Inca burial places) tucked into the sides of the mountains and finally we end our hike in the town of Cachiccata where we settle in to a nice hotel and a dinner in one of the many local restaurants.

Day 4 Ollantaytambo- Machu Picchu -Cusco
After an early Peruvian buffet breakfast, we walk to the Ollantaytambo train station and take the two hour train ride to the town of Aguas Calientes. The train winds through the river valley and the changing climactic zones with views of the majestic mountains and glimpses of ancient ruins. From Aguas Calientes, the bus ride completes our journey to the Inca site of Machupicchu, where we enjoy a private, guided tour. In the afternoon, we return to Aguas Calientes and board our train back to Cusco.
